Dusty Notebooks

I stumbled upon some of my numerous sporadic dusty notebooks while organizing my closet. I thought I'd post some of my random writings/lyrics that I have done over the years for posterity. I do not think most of them have ever seen daylight as I was probably too embarrassed at the time to show them to anybody.

But as I've gotten older, I look back on my romantic naivety/sincerity with a large degree of fondness. So do not read too much into them, I know they're cheesy! But the majority of the stuff I have written has been for or about somebody, good or bad, so its nice to rediscover and relive the past for a minute.

Also, I am less likely to ever let a server go down than I am to lose an old notebook, so this functions as I nice backup plan... try not to cringe too much if you read them!

Baby's Breath

Unclean sheets and close call dreams
Keep my mind from sleeping

So to myself on a baby's breath
Bloom words of songs repeating

I lay still as not to wake you
Whisper softly into your ear

Honey my whole heart says thank you
What would I do
If you weren't near?

I think you'll be alright
Wasting your time
Curled up tight
Next to me

I think we'll be alright
Laughing all night
It just feels right
You and me

Soul of the City

Lyrics by Brian Lehnen / Mike Cabrera
Music by Cancun

Soul of the City
Rolls off the lake
Shaking windows in some other place

Dawning, brightened, woken up by the cold
Walking backwards in some borrowed clothes

Now its too early to change routines
Give me an excuse
I'm too scare to leave

I just got on my feet
Barely woke
Can hardly breathe

Silver spirals driving up towards to sky
Scattered wishes, blown out from my mind
Bustling corners lively, all full of light
Seasons changing more frequent than my life

Start it over wash me clean
The radio is on, static helps me sleep

Now its too early to change routines
I'm barely woke can hardly breathe...

This time, I've made up my mind
I'm going leave it all behind
It's just this dream has grown so strong
I have to see it through

Soul of the city
Blows off the lake
Breaking windows in some other place...
